• Helping Third Culture Kids Find Belonging Beyond Borders

We help international schools integrate identity and belonging through experiential learning and outdoor education.

  • Globally Mobile Students.

    Missing Systems of Belonging.

International schools are more diverse than ever.
Students are growing up across cultures, countries, and environments, learning to adapt quickly to change.
On the surface, many of them seem confident, capable, and socially aware.
But beneath that adaptability, there is often a different reality:
    • A fragile sense of belonging
    • An unclear sense of identity
    • A constant need to adjust depending on the environment
These challenges rarely show up as obvious problems.
    Instead, they appear as:
    • Independence
    • Flexibility
    • Resilience
Which is why they are often missed.
These aren't behavioral issues. They are identity responses.

Identity isn’t built through explanation, it’s built through experience.

We use a structured cycle to help schools intentionally build belonging:

    • Arrive – first impressions matter
    • Connect – relationships are designed
    • Level – remove labels and hierarchy
    • Challenge – growth through experience
    • Reflect – make meaning
    • Transfer – bring it back to school life

Belonging is not assumed. It is designed.

  • Why This Work Matters to Me

I grew up across six countries and five continents before the age of 15. Like many Third Culture Kids, I learned to adapt quickly, new schools, new cultures, new environments. On the surface, I seemed confident and capable. But underneath, I struggled with a simple question:

    Where do I belong?

It wasn’t until I began working in outdoor education that something shifted. In the outdoors, identity wasn’t about where I was from. It was about how I showed up, how I connected, and how I contributed. For the first time, I experienced a real sense of belonging. Today, I work with international schools to help create those same environments for students navigating identity across cultures.

    Because I believe:

    • Students don’t need more explanations of who they are
    • They need more environments where they don’t have to explain at all

Why Growing Up Across Cultures Isn't Always as Simple as It Looks: Growing up between cultures is often described as a gift. And in many ways, it is. We develop adaptability, cultural awareness, language skills and a broader view of the world. But there is another side to the story that is talked about far less. Questions like: • Where do I belong? • Why don't I feel fully part of any culture? • Is something wrong with me? In this first Routes to Roots Live session we'll explore the hidden side of growing up globally and discuss how identity, belonging and shared experiences shape who we become. Whether you're a Third Culture Kid, a parent, educator or simply curious about multicultural identity, this conversation is designed to be open, honest and interactive.
